Yanna Pavlopoulou


Founder and Managing Director of CommonLAWgic, think-tank and research institute, based in Greece, that offers legal, strategic and project management assistance, over sustainability reporting, climate change, corporate responsibility, accountability, waste  and resource efficiency management, on diversity and social entrepreneurship concerns in the shipping and other industrial sectors.

She was a Lawyer (Athens Bar), litigator before the Greek courts (1987-2014) on shipping, corporate, tax, labor and civil law cases; Part-time General Counsel of Hellenic Star Shipping Company (1990-2007); Trained (2011) Sustainability Report Verifier on behalf of Hellenic Lloyd’s (Lloyd’s Register Marine); Corporate Social Responsibility (C.S.R.) Practitioner, accredited by IEMA UK, since 2008; Assessor of companies on Excellence Management Models [UN GRI, AA1000, E.F.Q.M 2013, EBEN and Investors in People (IiP), as well as Marine Standards ISO 50001, 14001, ISM, ISPS, TMSA, SEEMP]. She is currently adjunct lecturer for QMS-KLC Maritime Training Center and was Lecturer on “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Shipping” for HELMEPA ( Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association) for the 2009 Environmental Training Program.

Elected (2013-2015) Secretary General and Governor to the BoD of Propeller Club of the US ( Port of Pireaus). Member of the main Organizing Committee of 'Let'sDoitGreece" waste cleanup campaign. Active member of SNAME (Society of Naval Architects & Marine Engineers), Hellenic Management Association (HMA), Transparency International (Greece), HSWMA (Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association) and WISTA (Women International Shipping & Trading Association). Coordinator of ALUMNI HUB, President of Georgetown Alumni Club of Greece and GU Alumni Admissions Committee for Greece. Member of the Board of the Greek Telecom. Estate Cooperative Association (2005-2007).

She is a committed volunteer in raising awareness over Corporate Social Responsibility as  Creation of Shared Value and resource efficiency quality management tool, through articles in scientific journals, professional press, web or tv and as a keynote speaker on many expert panels e.g. invited by the Maritime Business School at HSBA (Hamburg School of Business Administration) (May 2012), topic “Creating Sustainable Value for Shipping” with the Managing Director, VDR - German Shipowners' Association and the Senior Vice President, Germanischer Lloyd AG, Hamburg. As Masterclass Workshop Leader (1-5 p.m.) on "Corporate Social Responsibility and Green Policies" in Singapore (June 2011). Leader of an hourly Roundtable Discussion (March 2011) at GREEN SHIP TECHNOLOGY CONFERENCE in Oslo, Norway, as Workshop Leader of a 70 min. workshop on CSR at the 30th Intl WISTA Conference in Athens (October 2010).  Representative of HMA (Hellenic Management Association) at the Judging Panel for the Greek CSR Awards 2010, organized by HMA & CSR Hellas Network.


PhD cand. at the Environmental Economics & Sustainability Unit, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Sector of Industrial Management and Operations Research of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) Greece. Topic: Assessment of Sustainability Reporting standards.

TRAIN MOS II Post Graduate Diploma (EU funded Joint Webinar Program  on Maritime Sustainability, LNG & Supply Chain Management, conducted by UNIGE, FCSH, NTUA,UPM, UoS) (60 credits) Sept. – December 2015.
